THE STORY BEHIND KONGENS GATE 31

With its unique neo-baroque style, Kongens Gate 31 is a well-kept gem within the streets of Oslo. Inspired by the Chicago School, the building was designed by Herman Backer and completed in 1895. The facade is covered in Norwegian marble and has a lot of unique details. Over the years the building has over  housed a large assortment of high-end fashion brands.

Karl Johans Gate 16 was first built for Consult General Peter Persen after the city fire of 1858. Designed by H.E Schirmer and W von Hanno, the property housed both Pedersens wholesale business and a private residence. It was also the address for the hat manufacturer Carl Guldbrandsen & Co. Gjensidige took over the building in 1925, they redesigned it together with Carl Michaelsen. Introducing a new and neoclassical look, the architect created a new high-end building in the city’s most spectacular district.
